L'album a été produit par Pete Townshend. Tous les morceaux et tous les arrangements sont de Raphael Rudd. "Homage" est inspiré du "Blue Rondo a la Turk" de Dave Brubeck (qui a également inspiré The Nice, Pär Lindh Project et Claude Nougaro).
Cet album figure dans une discographie de Renaissance, de ses membres et des groupes apparentés non seulement parce qu'Annie Haslam y participe, mais aussi parce que Raphael Rudd lui-même a fait partie de Renaissance, on le retrouve sur l'album Unplugged.. Il a sorti un second album solo, "Skydancer", aujourd'hui indisponible, en 1991. Cet album comportait une nouvelle version de "Seasons", enregistrée en 1989, de nouveau avec Annie Haslam au chant.
L'édition de 2003 de "The Awakening" (pochette du haut) ne contient qu'un CD, avec les plages listées ci-dessus. L'édition de 1996 (pochette du bas) contenait en deuxième CD l'album "Skydancer", dont on avait, en dépit du bon sens, enlevé la version de 1989 de "Seasons".

Eddie Hardin et Bimbo Acock avaient été invités à participer à l'album Time-Line de Renaissance.

La suite de l'histoire
Annie Haslam devra faire face à un cancer. Pendant sa lutte contre la maladie, elle enregistrera avec Tony Visconti l'album Blessing in Disguise, qui sortira en 1994. Ce sera celui de sa renaissance.
Elle participera aux albums d'hommage à Yes et à Genesis, Tales From Yesterday et Supper's Ready, qui sortiront simultanément en 1995.
Elle retrouvera Michael Dunford en 1997 et participera à sa Scheherazade Musical Promotional Edition.
